The label said the toaster was no longer supported. At the Saturday repair café, a volunteer named Ruth said it mainly needed cleaning and a modest replacement part. Forty minutes later it produced two slices of toast and a small round of applause. Its owner had brought the instruction manual, which everyone admired for containing an actual wiring diagram.
